It cant be. Just yesterday the boy sitting next to me, the one who is 59 with a voice as deep as Darth Vaders, was sleeping tenderly in my arms. I remember the moments he spent learning to crawl, then walk, watching as he lost teeth, learned to ride a bike, and skateboard. Motherhood taught me just how fragile life is, and gave me a new sense of what it meant to love. I remember vowing to always protect him, and to keep him close so that nothing bad could happen. And then today, he asked a question I thought would hed never ask. Mom, can I go on the class trip to Boston? Forget that he needs just over $500 to go. My baby will be on his own, with no parents, in an unfamiliar city, for two nights. THERE ARE NO WORDS. I am letting him, because really, isnt it a parents job to give our kids roots and wings? Help make it less painful and buy a candle or two. Both have sayings near and dear to my heart, and make a whole lot of sense given the nature of this fundraiser. Oh Lord, my babys growing up.
