This morning I was in the bank waiting in line & was already in a negative mood due to several factors: 1) The simple fact that Im there for the purpose of writing a check to the IRS that I dont feel like I owe (theyre crooks) 2) A business call that I was on right before I walked into the bank didnt exactly end as I had intended it to & left me frustrated.... Anyways, Im in line filling out bank slip, & Apparently I just looked stressed out or pissed-off because this old black man comes right up to me & says hey son, why the long face?? It cant be that bad can it?? I just looked at him & wanted to say excuse me old man but you dont know me, but I didnt. I just said No sir, its just apparently going to be one of those days. His reply was SOLID--- He said well you look healthy young man, are you sick? I say no sir, Im well. He says I bet you have a kid dont you & I told him that I do, I have a 3 year old baby girl. He then says well is she sick? I tell him no, she is great. He nodded then says well have you lost your house & are filing for bankruptcy? (With a smirk on his face). I laugh a little and say No sir Im not, & I see you point. He then says to me son, do me a favor, tomorrow when you wake up and are brushing your teeths, take a long hard look in the mirror and just say thank you Lord for my health & my daughter.... Then think about something you have done well recently or something you like about yourself. Be thankful you have a job and the ability to feed your daughter. He then tells me that he once had a daughter named Ivory and he lost her in a car wreck when she was 10. He carries a picture of her in his pocket. He said that he also once owned a house but lost it to the bank because he got sick and couldnt work for several years and they took it. He said things got real tough for him and many nights he slept on the street and moved around from place to place searching for work or food to eat. By now Im just frozen in place, staring into this mans eyes without any words to say, but he suddenly w/much enthusiasm blurts out but its allllllll good now Son!!! I gots me a job & am fixin to be down there working at the new Sams Club up the road! God is good young man!!! He smiled a huge smile then slaps me on the back and says stay positive young man, & God bless you. Maybe come by & see me at Sams when it opens! ...then he walks out. Its Amazing the lessons we can learn from just paying attention to the world around us & taking another mans perspective to heart. This old man slapped something in my face that Ive been needing for a long time. #Thankful
