This morning I’m writing my missive from my official office/dining room table in my home, sweet home. It is good that we chose to take a ride on Delta Airlines where the pilots still believe in the idea of lift and currents. Sure it was an old fashioned plane ride, with good conversation, snacks and of course the “happy ending” (when the plane rolled up to the gate and we got out of there) cause I really wasn’t in the mood for a suicidal pilot, a hijacking or a water landing near a desert island (ala “Lost”), I just wanted to get home. And thus my missive….there will always be times when your flight of fancy becomes a crash in a corn field. The world is not a perfect place and so we all experience daily loses, screw ups and bouts of just plane stupidity. While in Boston I found that some tourism sites were NOT open on the weekends (when the tourist’s show up) because it inconvenienced the employees of the site (maybe they will be less inconvenienced when the place goes out of business). A couple of historic cemeteries were closed by late afternoon on Saturday during the perfect time to visit, and a docent in the State House droned on with information that only an employee could understand. But overall the trip with Sharon to Boston went well because we remembered the sky is on top, the grass is on bottom and never ask a homeless person to give you change for a $20.00 bill. Today as I head out into the great big world I’ll remember that consensus is not “standards based” and that some of the loudest folks may be the stupidest (is that a word?). I will focus on the truth and tune out the “shout down” from those who would scream their displeasure rather than debate the reality of their argument. And I’ll keep in mind that this world, like the food court at the airport is NOT my final destination and is simply a stopping place on the road home. A home where there are no cemeteries or disgruntled tours guides, and the gate is never locked. I’ll see y’all on the off ramp.
