This morning, a King amongst Kings, left us for brighter pastures. We got Concho when he was retired as a barrel horse and sold to Hayden Templeton, Triple T Stables, who was teaching my daughter Chase how to ride when she was 12. I’ve read many horse stories, and would not have believed they were true until I watched Concho pick Chase, to be his. The Vet advised us not to buy him as he had been used hard as a barrel horse and had the old injuries to prove it. But my daughter and Concho had made up their minds and we got him. That was about 15 years ago. He proved his devotion over and over again – was one of the most amazing horses I have ever had the pleasure of being around. He babysat my young and wild daughter like no regular horse could. The stories we could tell! About 8 years ago we retired Concho again, offering him beautiful pastures and his constant companion Little Man. I promised him that I would do whatever it took to let him have a carefree life for his remaining years. I hope he felt I lived up to my end of the deal. He was about to be 34. RIP Concho. I love you.
