This morning, during my Advent devotion, I read that we shall be oaks of righteousness. (Isaiah 61:3) I thought of the beauty and bounty of oaks in the fall. They share their fruits, the acorns, and sustain the ecological community. Their leaves turn brilliant colors, providing inspiration to poets, artists, and philosophers. I think of the oaks of righteousness, in my life----some still here---others gone. In other cultures or capacities, we know them by different names, such as leaders, or corn mothers. Whatever we call them, they inspire us to greater heights.
