This morning on the Jeff Akin Show Texarkana, Texas Bob Bruggeman spoke about last night’s city council meeting. According to the mayor, the council discussed an issue dealing with a winery being in close proximity of a school. The mayor said the winery is in compliance with Texas Law. Mayor Bruggeman also revealed that the city will host a regional convention for an international civic organization in 2015. Bowie County Judge Sterling Lacy joined the program and broke a huge news story. According to Lacy, his budget contains a property tax rate decrease. He said the Commissioners have to pass the budget in order for the decrease to go into effect. Peggy Venable, Texas Director Americans for Prosperity, talked about the possible impeachment of the Texas State School Board representative from the area. Thomas Ratliff, who represents Region 9 on the SBOE, has been asked to resign by state legislators and now a there’s a grassroots movement to impeach him. Attorney General Greg Abbot recently ruled that since Ratliff is a lobbyist he cannot serve on the board. She also talked a district judge in Texas ruling that a school district in the Lone Star State can not use the controversial curriculum called CSCOPE.
