This morning the semi wild Tom cat--- Mau Mau ( he always meows twice never once and never more than twice)---And-who decided to live with me about a year ago----brought a live Moorhen through the cat door-----the bird seemed undamaged ---so i took it back outside and released it-------- an unusual event you may think------but i remembered my Black Persian tomcat Teddy ---R.I.P. had left a live Moorhen in my old house some 15yrs previously. Moorhens are quite large and I always wondered how on Earth Teddy had got himself and the bird through the cat flap----------Mau Mau is big ----he ony just fits through a normal size cat flap------his efforts with a Moorhen must have been even more amazing-----So----end of story?------not quite--------What are the odds on two different cats catching a Moorhen---which are aquatic birds----and stashing them uninjured in different homes owned by the same person------Moorhens live on ponds---there are no ponds at either address-------The birds are not that common and hardly ever seen away from water bodies-----Then i remembered that last week a friend had remarked that Mau Mau seem to exhibit many of the character traits and idiosynchratic behaviour patterns that Teddy had possessed-------eg.---Meowing Twice,,Purring so loud you could hear him from another room----catching animals but never harming them----looking at you with his left eye closed and sleeping on the seat of any motor cycle that happens to be parked on his territory the list goes on -------Perhap s Mau Mau is a reincarnation of Teddy my friend had remarked----why dont you ask him for a sign?-----Kj
