This morning two more RN members joined us in Tanauan. Today we ran the clinic again and a team of six went to one of the nearby town districts to do more body retrieval. A tv team from NBC NEWS took some footage from our work in the clinic and also from our body recovery. Since yesterday a hotline has been opened to a coordinating group in case patients need to go to a hospital. There are three running hospitals in Tacloban. Our connections to the Department of Health (DoH) are good and access to supplies is getting better each day. Tomorrow the first of many family tents will be built designated areas. The first 50 meters closest to the sea is condemned and from now on not allowed be used for housing, because of the risk of future disasters. There have been enough tents donated to temporarily house 700 families. The plaza (town square), next to our town hall clinic, is being turned into a heli pad where big helicopters can land. Big electricity poles are being placed along the main street, at our front door, to organize street lighting again, wIthin a few days. It is amazing how people are trying to get some essential systems up and running. At the same time these systems are fixed we just see the overwhelming need and wonder when this town will ever be rebuild. The people we meet in the clinic or outside when searching for bodies are all so super friendly. We sometimes have a good laugh with them and just celebrate the fact that we are meeting for a moment, from person to person. Their hospitality and warmth is simply amazing. The plans we had to run a mobile clinic has been put on hold by the Deparment of Health. At this stage they want us to keep running the improvised clinic while they have committed themselves to sending such mobile medical teams into the communities. We continue to discern where we can serve best, keeping in close contact with the major and vice major and their staff. Thanks for your prayer and support!!
