This no doubt qualifies as a bit of spam, but Ive checked with the boss and he gave me the thumbs-up -- thanks, John! I wrote a book on the 298th Army Band, which was situated in West Berlin. I started the project not quite 10 years ago and just today finished it. Its a book that chronicles individual and collective stories and some of the more heady historical information that the band was in the middle of -- 110 miles behind the Iron Curtain. That city was a focal point for Cold War stuff -- the Berlin Airlift in 1948-49, the Wall going up, the standoff at Checkpoint Charlie, and then, of course, the Wall coming down. Its an interesting read for those who were there and perhaps even for those who werent but wanted to be there. The book is available on Amazon and theres a Kindle version.
