This obviously isnt aimed at every farang reading this, but many may identify. You go to a karaoke club with your Thai girlfriend, wife, group of Thai friends, etc. and they all love to sing along with this and other Thai pop songs. You all eat, drink, dance, have fun, good times in general so when you hear music like this it reminds you of all that and gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling. I completely understand and at some level identify with the sentiment. But as someone whose favorite bands growing up in America or Europe may have been The Stones, U2, Marvin Gaye, Queen, Genesis, The Police, etc. deep inside you secretly think that Thai pop and rock music is essentially unlistenable at pretty much every level, right? Come on, admit it. Heres the bigger question though: Whether its music, movies, humor, soap operas, whatever, how much of Thai pop culture do you find yourself trying to convince yourself you actually like in order to fit in?
