This one is accompanied by one of my poems. ~Autumn~ The interim between bawdy Litha and brisk Lughnasa unfolds before me. The sky washed of colour as bleached slate: The touch of air is sticky with the former seasons greedy grasp, And heady with the turn of the days blooms; Verdant trees shed their vibrant and rich shades of viridian from high-summer, And now look as over cooked dandelion greens, Lying limp in a pan; Sneaky patches here and there are beginning to don their autumn hues The south facing boughs are dusted with hints of ochres and rusts, As if the very leaves are dipped in sepia, Looking as faded parchment in the hazy morns sun; Bees and wasps anxiously clamor for a sip or two from the humming-bird fountains, Thieving the ruby throated avians of one last taste of viscous sweetness; Heavens breath kisses tentatively today, Rustling Ceres hair in a gentle persistent touch; Undulating hills drape before my vision, Nestled between patches of sylvan glens Sun bleached grass langours thickly in wait for crisper days ahead; Purple tinted shadows ooze out over the rolling landscape deeper and richer Not so starkly lit as the hours past, With its dollops of dusky sunlight; An alizarin cloaked geranium nodded at me through the picture window Her petals having fallen and littered my porch, Looking like so many droplets of blood on the water washed boards; The overgrown garden flood-fills with untended flora Black-eyed Susans bristle out from the sprinkling of snowy Sweet Alyssum: Diminutive Chrysanthemums pop up in protective bunches of burnt orange and blacks, While vibrant fuchsia Bachelors Buttons bob and weave in the subtle breeze Behemoth sunflowers that have gone to seed, Faint down into the embracing arms of the Queen Anns Lace below. Whole in Whole a lackadaisical day stretches out before me as I sit contented, And watch the nights repent out my window. Kristof 9-12-03
