This page on nazarene.org was just pointed out to me. In it, we state: Nazarenes also understand baptism to be a symbol of the new relationship God establishes with His people. Because of this, some Nazarenes choose to have their young children baptized as a symbol of their intention to raise their children in Gods Church and their hope to see that their children choose Gods ways when they are older. My difficulty is this: is it not problematic to go from baptism as symbol of the new relationship God establishes in one sentence to infant baptism as symbol of [the parents] intention to raise their children in Gods church [etc] in the next? I mean, I know the subject of the tensions inherent to our statements on baptism are well-trodden ground in this group, but I think this was the first time Id read this particular (non-Manual) phrasing. nazarene.org/ministries/administration/visitorcenter/questions/display.html
