This past May my grandfather attended a reception at the White House honoring the plaintiffs of the the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case. This was the case in which the supreme court declared separate but equal unconstitutional, and desegregated public schools and university in the United States. Because he and other black students were willing to fight for their right to receive a proper education, I was able to attend and graduate from one of the best public universities in this country, and I will be free to apply to any law school in the upcoming months.
