HINDSIGHT ROHIT SINGH RANA All parties gang up against RTI The politicians of this country have ganged up against the Right to Information Bill. Not that they want to discontinue with it but want to keep it for rest of Indians as for them it is alright. They should come under the purview of the RTI but when it comes to the political parties they should not. Otherwise all parties who some other day fight each other like wild animals and are ready to tear each other’s flesh should have not come together to get the amendment done to RTI Bill. When joint interests are there the Indian political parties will give away the sworn enmity of each other and get the needful done. Who is secular and who is communal or who is regional and who is national who is casteist and who is atheist is not considered by these architects of the destiny of India. They get away with what they want. Remember, with what speed the members of Parliament got a hefty raise for themselves couple of years ago. No discussion or wait was needed. What they want for themselves has to be done. The Kapil Sibal statement will show some new dimension to the logic employed by high and mighty of the country.“Noting that political parties were nothing but voluntary associations of people, with the individuals free to join or leave them at will, he said that if the interpretation of the CIC was right, then farmers, industries and others who also get substantial support from the Government in the form of subsidies, tax exemptions and benefits should also be covered under RTI. “We are elected. We are not appointed like officials’. Yes the political parties and the politicians are not like officials then why do they behave like mad rush officials and transfer Khemkas 40 times and a poor Durga Nagpal on a charge which is proved false by her superior but on the ground too which are baseless. Why do politicians of these political parties live an opulent life style when they come to power? Why is it that their worth in rupees, bungalows and cars increase by many times when they, through political parties attain great power and amass huge wealth? Should they not fall under the RTI? One of the banes of these political parties is that they get huge funding from undisclosed sources. Businessmen and industrialists fund them but that is not revealed. Congress Party has assets worth more than 1200 crore and so have other parties. What is the source of these large sums? At the time of elections an MP spends crores of rupees. Where from does he get it? Gopinath Munde, the former Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister himself said that he spent eight crore rupees in elections. A Raj Sabha seat is up for sale for 100 crore. How will these political parties convince the tax payer of this country that they are honest and their collections are clean? The entire nation has lost faith in its politicians and the political parties. Either they come clean on their source of income or they make way for honest people who will not hesitate to let their dealings fall within the ambit of RTI. India for God’s sake is sick of many of its politicians. No way out but to show them the door permanently.
