This past Sunday was the first day the Nisa Foundation Food Pantry - TopicsExpress

This past Sunday was the first day the Nisa Foundation Food Pantry opened its doors to distribute food to help those in need. A half dozen families received help including some non-Muslims. This is the first Muslim organization in Houston to formally begin this good work. This is just an expansion of the other work the non-profit has been doing in the Houston Muslim Community for several years now. To date 600 distressed families have received help in the form of marriage counseling and other programs to assist with domestic issues. Imagine how many children today belonging to these 600 families are now living in a loving home in which the parents have reconciled their differences. Imagine the burden to the community this would have been if these would have become broken homes instead. Many in our community and in America in general are facing difficult times. America itself is going through a transformational time period and in these times of great change there are opportunities for minorities to define themselves. We Muslims living in America must have the vision to see this and use this opportunity to show to our fellow citizens that we do care. We have institutions and non-profits in our community that are here to help not only Muslims but also non-Muslims. Our mission is to serve all people. The Nisa Foundation has developed a template which can be used by Muslim communities to setup similar organizations all over America. Imagine if Muslims in every major city in America setup a network of Distressed Family Assistance Centers along with food pantries. We Muslims need to start thinking and making long term strategic plans to help further cement our position in this society. The Nisa Foundation lead by Bibi Khan has shown us how some of this can be done and done economically. Salaam Ali Shaikh
