This plea to legalise assisted dying must not be ignored I only hope Prof John Ashtons intervention helps change our attitudes towards end-of-life care – the assisted dying bill depends on it. Prof John Ashtons courageous and humane stance on the need to change our attitudes towards death and dying could not be more timely, given that Lord Falconers assisted dying bill is to reach its crucial second reading in the House of Lords on 18 July. Ashtons call for midwives for the end of life is a response to a serious problem in the way the medical profession approaches the care of dying people.
