This post is for Seth Livingston who asked about some exercises to help with cleans and clean variations. This is a segment pull. My athlete is pulling the bar one inch, to the knee, and finally to the hip all with a slight pause. He then finishes with a clean and jerk. The segment pull is a great way to burn in bar path consistency and gives you a chance to make adjustments through the separate phases of the initial pull.
