This post is for all you Net Zero Climate Hero friends of mine who are starting to think about battery backup and energy security. All it takes to keep your grid-tie solar system producing through a grid outage is a micro-grid power station to substitute for the grid. There are several players, but right now Im liking the Schneider Conext XW+ featured in the videos below for about $3K, $4k with accessories. Add 8 golf cart batteries for $1k and you have a micro-grid. Your neighbors will have to call you to tell you when the power goes out. Instead of big battery bank, add a 240V generator- Samsclub has a 10kw one on sale now for $600. Your net metering is up when the grid is up. Your batteries dont cycle until there is a power outage. If you get so comfortable with your system that you want to drop the grid, you could consider more batteries, a better generator or even a wind turbine. They dont produce that much power, but they provide it when its dark and dreary and you need it most. With the bother of putting it up, you need to get one that will start up in low winds. Jeff has all the info up on Youtube channel Missouri Wind and Solar. See https://youtube/watch?v=opP13e-TvHM for example. And he has an online store as well. If I had the space I would put one up myself. I like this one: store.mwands/wind-turbine-packages/2000-watt-11-blade-missouri-general-freedom-wind-turbine-and-all-in-one-charge-controller-board-combo-kit/ You could probable get up for about $4k.
