This post thats being shared all over FB ends with several disclaimers and a line about always trying to find ways to take down the walls that teens put up, but all the suggested discipline tactics are designed to put up walls of anger, fear, resentment, etc. Doesnt make sense. Some better ideas are to work with teens to come up with reasonable boundaries and if the boundaries get pushed work with your teen to find out what the problem is and help them solve the problem instead of just creating more problems either for them or in your relationship with them. If your teen rolls their eyes or is disrespectful, find out why theyre feeling that way and tell them how it makes you feel and work on ways you both can feel respected and heard. And if waiting ten minutes after texting to say youre there for your teen to say goodbye and disengage from their friends/activities when you pick them up bothers you, why not just text them ten minutes before you get there and let them know to start saying their goodbyes and disengaging so theyll have the time they need and you wont have an annoying wait? My mom always says focus on solutions, not retributions and I agree! What do you think? :) Doc
