This probably won’t go down too well, but here we go - TopicsExpress

This probably won’t go down too well, but here we go anyway: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (commonly known as ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that causes muscle spasticity, difficulty in speaking, swallowing, and breathing, and is one of the most common motor neurone diseases. Most people with ALS die from respiratory failure usually within a couple of years from the onset of symptoms. So let me ask this: how does pouring a bucket of ice water over your head help find a cure for ALS? Sure, the act is intended to raise awareness. Sure, the person pouring the ice water is meant to donate $10 to the cause, but do they? Sure, the person denying the challenge has to donate $100 to the cause, but do they? This brings me to another point; the simple fact that you deciding to pour ice water over your head, instead of donating more money, shows the exploitable nature of this generation. People are posting these videos to feed their own vanity and ego and ask their friends “how many likes did it get?”. If you really cared about finding a cure for ALS you would donate on your own free will, not because someone dared you to pour ice water over your head. Most people participating in this fad don’t even know what ALS is and that is the most disappointing part! This is a real disease affecting real people. Show a bit of humility for the people that have to suffer from this disease on a day to day basis.
