This review has been long over due... It’s been a while since our arrival from Vigan City and after 870++kms on the Ducati Monster 795, I still can’t shake the feeling of exhilaration on the bike... So let me start with a slightly comprehensive review on the bike... First off, the bike is a menace to look at... Curves, lines, machinery and all... It gave me awe even without looking at the “DUCATI” on its tank... It is a beautiful bike... A machine that not only looks good, but sounds even better... So how does it perform? Comfort: For a guy my age and weight, the bike was surprisingly easy on the back and buttocks... Normally, after a couple of hours on other bikes, I would feel some strain on the seat that would radiate towards my back... This bike was comfortable to sit on, the leg position was quite comfortable and the seat allowed me to adjust accordingly to a forward stance to an upright posture... On the downside, my weight put more pressure on my forearms and wrist during heavy breaking... So I did feel some pressure and strain there... But for a lighter guy, I believe it would not be the same way... And with 235lbs on my belt, there is no way that would put pressure on my arms as I try to stop this bike in time to attack the corners... Power: I only have one word... DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN! Seriously though, I rode sport bikes, cruisers, monster scooters and bikes on steroids, but this bike, for the displacement it carries, is hard to get used to... And I say hard because it just seems to come and come and come and come and come and come... Needless to say, for each throttle blip, It was just pure G’s... And during the ride where I was given a clear road ahead, I took the bike up to speed only to shut off because I had reached my speed limit... I believe I am already good at 185kph *enter evil grin and devilish laugh here*... And in spite that power, the bike was still easy to handle through tight spaces as it doesn’t go wild... Handling: Big bike = Heavy bike... WRONG!!!! This bike is very easy and light to handle... I was not over shooting corners, instead, I was cutting corners more... The bike handled way better than what I expected from it... And even in tight city traffic, I was weaving like I was riding a smaller commuter bike... Weight is not an issue... And with that said, the center of gravity on this motorcycle was surprisingly well balanced for my riding style... The front feel kept me confident on the corners and the stiffness of the rear felt as if the bike was glued on the road... Consumption: You must know that I am very sensitive about this aspect... And I admit, I am a cheap bastard... And since we were riding on a budget, I was afraid that we would lose all our fuel allowance on the bike... And again, here I am finding myself surprised beyond belief... It took us 870kms travelling to and from Vigan City... And in 870kms, I gassed up a total of 46++ liters... That is about 18.91 kms to a liter... Compared to my 208cc scooter, which runs on 19kms to a liter, the 795 is better 3X over... Power at a fraction of the cost of fuel... Verdict: Right now, I am still at a loss for words for a final statement on the bike... I still can’t get over the fact that the only drawback I can think of right now is the sad reality that I CANNOT AFFORD IT... But put the aspects of comfort, power, handling and consumption together, this bike is right up the alley of winners in its class... And since this is my first written review on a big bike, this sets a very tough benchmark to follow... All I can say is, for a person who has been used to smaller bikes on steroids, you haven’t ridden till you try out a real bike such as the Ducati Monster 795... Thank you to Toti Alberto, Marc de Joya, Jeffrey Chan and Ducati. I hope that you allow me to take the Hypermotard on my next ride... :)
