This rings so true. Often, people judge my choice of profession negatively due to inaccurate perceptions of salary, summer vacation, etc. (mostly as a result of bad press). The truth is, I go to work every day to help make this community the best it could possibly be. Today I taught kindergarten students a new letter sound, helped them discover words they have never read before, encouraged them to have confidence in themselves to speak in front of others, showed them that mistakes are an important part of learning, modelled good manners and responsibility at snack time, gave hugs, wiped noses, and dried tears. I voiced positive praise for every student individually, so that at least once today they will feel proud of themselves and that they have worth. That was all before lunch. I made $113.20; but more importantly, I made sixteen 5-year-olds feel wonder, excitement, understanding, and self-worth.
