This season was supposed to be different. Even amid suspensions, Notre Dame reeled off six straight wins to begin the season. In decisive fashion nonetheless. After posting four straight games of 30+ points and a victory over then number 14 Stanford, Notre Dame was riding high headed into a match-up with number 2 Florida State. Thats when the tides changed for the Irish. That last play for Notre Dame, Scott Salas of Holland, Mich. said. The end zone reception that wasnt. The pick play that everyone uses but were the only ones that get called for it. In a game Notre Dame nearly won, a late pass interference call changed everything. It gave the Irish its first loss of the season, and the team started to spiral out of control. That last touchdown we thought we had won, Garrett Schmelling, Sophomore at Notre Dame said. The whole room was going crazy. It was really a heartbreak. We saw the whole season flash before our eyes there. That was the national championship there. Thats what it all meant. There was a big let down after that. The team would be able to ride that momentum and maybe ride it to the championship. I thought we would use that fire but it just wasnt there.
