This short video is of an abdominal ultrasound I did on Porthos, the Green Tree Frog during the week. He came in because his owners had noticed that he had lost some weight and his belly was a little bloated. The ultrasound showed some fluid in his abdominal cavity and some changes in his liver to suggest some form of liver disease. He is still happy and and eating so we are just going to monitor him. The video shows the use of a type of ultrasound called colour flow Doppler. We can detect blood flow through various organs and this is represented by colours. Red means the blood is flowing one way, blue shows blood flowing the other direction. It makes for some pretty awesome looking ultrasound images!
