This song is called Optimistic by a choir out of Minneapolis/St. Paul called the Sounds of Blackness. I remember hearing this song as a little kid but once I attended college at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, the song took on a new meaning. This was the sound they played during our African American graduation ceremony (also called Black Celeb). Every time I hear this song I think about all my friends from elementary school to college that have known me since I was a little boy and I have known them since then, now we are all grown and doing GREAT. Its funny how people love to blast Detroit but I was surrounded by greatness since I was in diapers. As I was riding down the freeway in Atlanta, this came on the radio. So much on my mind from this meeting in Brazil and the new growth of my business which is happening at a much faster pace than I expected to a good friend not sitting right with me. But God really knows how to remind you that He is there. And this song coming on the radio is evidence of that. This is by far my second favorite song ever. When I heard this song as a freshman at out Black Celeb, I knew my path was extremely different. I knew I didnt relate to the whole graduate and get a job mindset that most were conditioned to think. I knew I had to do things a little different because I was too much of a untraditional guy. But listening to Sounds of Blackness remind me that as long as you keep your head to the sky, YOU CAN WIN, BE OPTIMISTIC! The funniest thing is last year in February I was at an award show in LA and got the chance to meet the whole choir. I was star struck and so humbled. THEN I was in the Dominican Republic during last Labor Day Weekend and they all where staying at the same resort I was and I got to hang out with them! Isnt life just full circle!!! I would encouraged you ALL to take a listen to the words. I hope they give you strength like it gave me.
