This story really resonated with me. The idea of living off the grid.... When life in New York or London gets a little much the thought does cross my kind. What if I retire and live be a river in the wildest reaches of Canada? Ive listened to podcasts that describe experiences of people living hundreds of miles from their closest neighbor. Theres a romance in the idea. In fact, I think thats why I love the north of Scotland so much. It takes so long to drive to the remotest parts. Yet Im always left wanting: I can never truly get away. Theres always civilization. Perhaps a 3 day foot trek thru the mountains is the solution. What do you think? newyorker/culture/photo-booth/scrublands
