This time last year, my mom suffered a stroke, and my brother and aunt were on hospice care. It was by far the worst time in my life! I was completely overwhelmed! My Aunt passed the day after Thanksgiving. My mom was still hospitalized and therefore could not attend the services. My brother was so sick but was determined to be at her funeral. I imagined what it was like for him to attend end of life services for someone you love knowing that your own demise is lurking. Wow! My brother passed Dec 7th at home with the family at his bedside. My sister and I went to the rehab facility and signed my mom out against medical advice hours before he took his last breath. It was agreed that we would come get her when he started to transition from this life. After he was laid to rest, then all the focus was again on my mom and her health and well being. The stress of it all was insurmountable! And to make matters worse...there was family dissension! Remnants of that still exists to this day. Relationships within the family scarred, broken, and some wont ever be the same. I was a basket case. To some it may have appeared otherwise. And those really close to me probably knew the truth. I couldnt focus on my work. My eating habits were changing, my workouts were nothing like before, and I was drinking...alot! For many, many months I walked around in a daze while pretending to be ok. I know someone else was praying for me and my family because I couldnt. I didnt know what HE wanted for me. And I figured whatever I needed would soon come! My mom is doing so very well! Only one inpatient visit since this time last year. And that was only for one day! This is my favorite time of the year. I love this season, the fall and winter! I have been trying to get back on my square. I share all this to say...if anything of that magnitude were to come my way, I hope to be better able to handle it on the INSIDE as well as the outside!
