This tree had been struggling with Sudden Oak death . Perhaps not - TopicsExpress

This tree had been struggling with Sudden Oak death . Perhaps not as badly as many of the oaks on the land at Spirit Rock. I was shocked to find this one in such great shape and looking so healthy on my retreat last week. Back in January I was on retreat with Joanna Macy, an environmental activist. Joanna has been educating people for decades on the decay and destruction of our environment by what she calls the industrial complex. She educates through various experiential exercises such as the council-of-all-beings (joannamacy.net/resources/deepecology/111-joanna-macy-council-of-all-beings-july2002.html.) She teaches through ritual. Another ritual we did while on retreat with her was the The Bowl of Tears. (joannamacy.net/theworkthatreconnects/newpractices/72-honoringourpainintheworld/76-thebowloftears.html) This is where a bowl of blessed water or water from a special source is placed into a glass bowl and placed in the middle of the room. When the participants are feeling moved to they make thier way to the center of the room and begin to cry and say prayers into the bowl . {prayers for all the suffering people, beings, earth ...what ever they are drawn to cry about. When everyone is done and this literally can take hours. Something special is done with the water. We walked the water out to this tree and watered it during our ritual. I am wondering if the magic tears of the water and all our healing intentions healed this tree? I think perhaps.... My heart is moved by all I cannot save. So much has been destroyed. I have to cast my lot with those who, age after age, perversely, with no extraordinary power, reconstitute the world.
