This was apparently meant to be heartwarming. I found it repellent. The last line of the video is Let the games begin. SERIOUSLY? Id like to think this is well-intentioned, but there is something demeaning about making people compete for the saddest story. Kinda like the 1950s TV show Queen for a Day. Why not just anonymously make a gift? Maimonides said that the highest form of charity is for both giver and receiver to be unknown to each other. To make yourself known, and force the receivers to be humbled by making themselves known is a form of charity--but tempered in its purity by the donors self-aggrandizement and the recipients humiliation. In case you are tempted to respond to the video with a nomination, take note: There was a deadline of yesterday. Games have deadlines. Charity does not.
