This was growing among Atriplex canescens, Artemisia tridentata, and Gutierrezia sarothrae on the mesa above the Rio Grande Gorge and in Northern New Mexico. It looks kind of like a shrubby Lygodesmia. There was very little branching above the base, and the aboveground stems were not dormant in winter. I assumed this would be easy to figure out, because it is a fairly distinctive and common high desert plant, but I dont have a good flora for the area, and searching online has failed me thus far.
