This was posted by a FB friend for reasons other than my own. There are so many things wrong with this article. First of all, the Wall Street Journal would be the last place I would look for spiritual advice of any kind. Secondly, if you have been on any short term mission trip like the 10 or more I have been on with no air conditioning, ice cold showers, plywood beds, and spiders the size of volleyballs, Im sure you are appalled at being referred to as a vacationary. Additionally, if you ask anyone like Uvalda Gabriela Varela who is now sleeping in a home of her own that was built for $2000 by American workers and hired local labor rather than on a concrete floor with her two sons (who are also now being educated thanks to many American short term missionaries), she would likely disagree wholeheartedly. And finally, if you take a short term mission trip like any of those I have taken and you are not changed eternally, the problem may not be with the short term trip, but within your heart personally.
