This was posted on Tracy Fensomes FB page, she is a permanent make up Tech in the UK, great info! The 5 main reasons women loose their eyebrows..... Ageing Generally, ageing causes hair thinning. For women, as they age their estrogen hormone levels drop, increasing their susceptibility to DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in hair follicles. Hair growth cycle is shortened by increased levels of DHT, which leads to thinner hair. To have healthy hair cycles, it is important to have healthy estrogen levels. Nutritional support may be taken from Calcium-D-glucarate, indole-3-carbinol and broccoli extract (sulforaphane). Nutrient Deficiency Eyebrow thinning is sometimes the result of lacking the necessary nutrients your body needs, like vitamins D, E, A, L-lysine, B vitamins and iron. Vitamins D, E, and A help support and stimulate hair growth. Vitamins D, A and E are present in spinach, eggs, fish, almonds, sunflower seeds, kale, bell peppers and carrots. Iron can be found in whole grains, beans, legumes and meats. B vitamins are needed for healthy metabolic functions and for coping with stress which can also cause hair loss. Legumes, leafy green veggies and whole grains are rich in B vitamins. L-lysine is an amino acid which also helps prevent excessive hair loss. Chemotherapy There are certain medications within the chemotherapy process that lead to hair loss. There is normally the presence of hair loss after 2 to 3 weeks of treatment, but hair starts to grow back again months or weeks after the treatment is completed. The medications used for chemotherapy which lead to hair loss are vincristene, taxol, ifosfamide, etoposide, cyclophosphamide, carboplatin and adriamycin. A separate hair loss treatment is not often considered however, since the hair grows back after the completion of the treatment, but taking natural remedies that strengthen your immune system can reduce hair loss effects. Alopecia Areata This refers to an autoimmune condition wherein the body attacks by mistake the hair follicles which causes extensive or patchy hair loss including the eyebrows. This calls for naturopathic treatments such as nutritional support that include Vitamin D and B supplements, acupuncture and topical treatments containing essential oils of rosemary, lavender and thyme. Atopic Dermatitis Also called eczema, atopic dermatitis can attack any part of the body which also includes the skin where the eyebrows are to be seen. It involves itchy, red patches which have the tendency to become inflamed which can later cause thinning of the eyebrows over the said patches. Food sensitivities or topical irritants can be the cause of eczema. The way to eliminate eczema is by first determining food sensitivities then avoiding such foods after. There is also temporary relief in medicines and topical creams which contain marshmallow and chickweed roots.
