This was recently posted on your page and I totally agree. I have known a few men who have suicide - young and older and old. These men were of the stereotype that men do not speak about their feelings or how they are feeling. If they had spoken up friends and family may have been able to help them so they would still be with their families today. PLEASE SCRAP THE CAMPAIGN!!! The central message of the campaign is a problem that is constantly hampering efforts to help men at risk. Have a look at any of the current mens mental health messages that are trying to change the traditional view that men didnt have to speak. This ONE issue is significant in the rising stats on male suicide! I hear that you were attempting a light-hearted campaign and applaud it. However, in THIS one you have crashed & burnt in terms of a significant current mens health issue! The most recent suicide stats have just been released. PLEASE get your marketing team to spend ONE HOUR to research this current leading mens health issue!!! As a Lifeline Personal Counsellor who has also spent many hours on the phone making daily care calls to suicidal people (often mostly men aged 35 - 55ish) I KNOW that these men are laying listlessly on their lounges or in bed thinking of their perceived personal failures and watching TV !! The traditional view that men dont speak to vulnerable men means I CANT speak because Im a man. They think no one wants to know so they choose (usually) the most violent and mortal method of ending their personal and secret pain.
