This was something said by a very good friend of mine and it had to be said. *Danger Will Robinson** this is a rant: For those of you lucky enough to be able to attend the 2nd RNC Convention, it saddens and angers me to hear people ripping the convention. I was under the impression, mistakenly it seems, that romance writers were full of life and compassion. Reality has slapped me in the face. I’ve seen many posts griping and complaining about RNC, particularly along the lines. “I didn’t get to meet Jimmy. He supposed to meet the attendees. I paid good money for this?“ Well let me tell you something. I paid exactly what others paid. And while you had the luxury of attending classes and enjoying the night time festivities without a second thought, there were a handful of us who worked our asses off. I myself attended 2 1/4 workshops and was unable to attend the Ind’Tale luncheon because Gwen and I were on a quest to secure decorations for the costume ball. Am I complaining? Should I get a refund? Absolutely NOT! In case you didn’t notice, Jimmy does not have corporate sponsors so everything is on him. He takes his responsibility seriously. And for those that accuse Jimmy of being arrogant and aloof, you couldn’t be further from the truth than if you woke up on Mars. Jimmy truly wanted everyone to have a wonderful time. And with less volunteers than last year, I think he still managed to deliver. Yes, there may have been some issues, but lord almighty get off your pedestals and think about what did work. And consider volunteering at an event like this. And if you have any suggestions for what you’d like to see, frame them in a positive note and pass it along to Tara. And I can assure you, I stand by my friends no matter where they are along life’s journey, and I’ll be there, God willing, next June for RNC 2015. My rant is over and I apologize…just ready to explode over peoples’ high opinions of their perfect selves. Now my 2 cents worth, Jimmy probably works better behind the scenes BUT he has gone past his shell and safety zone to try to do something amazing for us as authors. Its only him, InDTale magazine, smash words and ibooks that do anything for the self published author. Jimmy is swallowing any debt for both of these conventions and despite some of the hitches the convention was amazing. I too worked my a$$ off and do not feel like I am entitled to any special treatment by Jimmy Thomas. Did he say thank you personally to me? Yes, he did. He is a lot like me, in that I think he is very reserved until he knows you and can trust you enough. He is amazing person and it hurts me so much to see what was said at the convention and after. Anything that happened in the negative, he did not and I repeat DID NOT do on purpose. My god, why would anyone do those things purposely?? Think about it. I personally will be working to make sure if we have a convention next year June RNC 2015 I will be beside my friend Official Jimmy Thomas Fan Page and KJ Montgomery.
