This was the 4th Episode of ICSF Seminars, held on June 22, 2013 at 8 pm Bangladesh time ( 3pm UK). Activists from all around the world joined this seminar through interactive venues in Oxford, London, NewCastle, Wales, Toronto, Dhaka, Chittagong, Gothenberg, Weimer, Gottingen, Kassle, Berlin and through live broadcasts on YouTube, ICSF interactive blog and partner blog sites. PANEL DISCUSSANTS: -- Gita Sahgal (Centre for Secular Space; Producer, War Crimes Files documentary) -- Jamal Hasan (Justice activist for 1971; Terrorism & Security Expert based in Washington DC) -- Advocate Zead al-Malum (Prosecutor, International Crimes Tribunal Bangladesh) -- Advocate Saiful Islam Tarek (Prosecutor, ICT) -- Barrister Tapas Kanti Baul (Prosecutor, ICT) -- Barrister Shah Ali Farhad (Writer, Blogger, Activist, Researcher, Member- ICSF) DESCRIPTION: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh has initiated proceedings against two foreign nationals of Bangladeshi origin for their alleged involvement in war crimes and crimes against humanity during the liberation war of 1971. In this episode of ICSF Seminars we discussed the legal, political and diplomatic challenges in extraditing these foreign nationals to Bangladesh as well as other options to bringing the alleged two individuals to justice. We also discussed the judicial options for initiating war crimes trial abroad if extradition fails, and strategise the various possible courses of campaign for accountability. The seminar focused on history of the campaign for justice that led to the proceedings being initiated against the two individuals, looking among other things at issues such as: • Allegations against these individuals. • The justice campaign that led to the initiation of these proceedings.
