This was the document we all split up and read to the Historic Preservation Commission at the May 21st Meeting. We also showed them a display board full of photos that documented the awesome condition of the interior at that time. According to the Wisconsin State Historical Society of Madison this was the ONLY appropriate time for any person in Fond do Lac to block Commonwealth -- when they filed papers to demolish the theater auditorium. Any Historical Preservation Commission worth its salt, presented an offer like Kellys that would preserve the HISTORIC Retlaw Theater...would leap for joy and confidently propose a delay of six months to one year. The delay gives Ann Kelly or anybody....TIME to persue and get financing/kick starters together. It pressures Commonwealth to CHANGE THEIR PLANS and INCLUDE the Historic Auditorium in its own plan. IF CW does NOT change their plan then the FdL HPC CAN CHOSE the Kelly plan that will NOT result in demolition of any part of the theater. This is yet another way THE CITY DID have a huge roll in backing CW and they ARE also to blame for the Retlaw Theater Demolition. The HPC was not reminded of their duties as HPC Commissioners by City Council Representative Sam Meyer, FdL Redevelopment Planner Dyann Benson, City Attorney Deb Hoffmann, or HPC Chair Lisa Pauly.
