This was the old District Office, Belaga when I was District Officer back in 1979. Towards the right on the top floor were my office and Treasury. The left top floor was the Rest House. The ground floor housed Telecom, Information, Agriculture, Welfare, Forest. All departments depended on the Telecom generator for power to run the fans. If the generator broke down, Belaga would be cut off from the rest of the world (we then used radio call service where your conversation could be heard all over the town as you have to shout to get your message across) and all of us would adjourn to the coffee shop (Chop Kim Guan) where we held court here. Belaga could get unbearably hot as SESCo had yet to come.
