This was told to me by Gene Simmons in 1991. In case you folks never heard this story, it’s one of the best. In late 1975, on RUSH’S last date opening for KISS (in Richmond Virginia) on the east coast leg of the Alive Tour… KISS had put their makeup and costumes on early that night and took to playing a little prank. Running onstage during RUSH’s last song, they threw cream pies into Geddy’s face and doused him with champagne. Geddy wanted to take it in stride, but Alex was having none of that. Once the set was done, he and Howard Ungerleider took off immediately across the street to a novelty store they had visited earlier that day at the mall. Shortly after KISS hit the stage, Geddy popped up from behind their amplifiers in an Indian headdress and started pelting them with those suction-cup arrows! Every time Gene or Paul went to the mike to sing, they would get clocked in the back of the head! Then… here comes Big Al bringing chaos and mayhem! Alex came on stage wearing a clown mask and dumped an entire wheelbarrow full of marbles onto the stage! Gene said, that because of the platform boots, he, Paul and Ace were trapped where they stood. Then Geddy and Neil really started going to town on them with the arrows. Roadies were running around with brooms in between them all trying to clear the mess! So, the moral of the story is? Don’t f*ck with RUSH!!!
