Detectives investigating the shooting and assault of a Rebels member in Minchinbury earlier this year have released CCTV footage of two cars that were in the vicinity when the attack occurred. Shortly after 8pm on Monday 7 July 2014, a 33-year-old member of the Rebels was shot as he walked into an industrial unit on Grex Avenue, Minchinbury – the clubhouse of the Rebels Mt Druitt chapter. After being shot three times in the leg, the man attempted to flee the location but he was chased down by three men and attacked as he lay on the roadway on Grex Avenue, Minchinbury. The man was kicked, punched and hit with a baseball bat, before his attackers – all of whom were wearing balaclavas – fled the scene. Police and emergency services were called to the location and the 33-year-old was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He has since been released. Detectives from State Crime Command’s Gangs Squad formed Strike Force Rooftop to investigate the incident and have today (Wednesday 19 November 2014) released CCTV footage of two vehicles that were seen in the area around the time of the shooting and assault. The CCTV, which was captured by cameras installed at the Rebels clubhouse, includes footage of a white Toyota Hilux which was seen driving into the clubhouse carpark at 7.15pm on Monday 7 July 2014 – approximately one hour before the shooting occurred. The footage also includes vision of a white sedan, which appears to have the shape of a Mazda 6. The sedan was also seen in the vicinity of the clubhouse approximately an hour before the shooting – CCTV captured it driving past the clubhouse around 7.10pm. Detectives believe the clubhouse’s CCTV cameras were turned off shortly before the shooting occurred; as a result no footage of the shooting, or the events that followed, is available at this stage. Gangs Squad detectives are appealing for anyone who recognises the vehicles to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
