This week I embarked on a new project! I decided to scratch build a 1:87 scale (HO for all you model railway enthusiasts) RC model of the SS Great Eastern (The largest paddle steamer ever built and the ship that laid the first transatlantic telephone cable) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Great_Eastern. Because she was so large the scale version has ended up being 8ft long. The only drawings I have are the ones I could find on google! I have never built a wooden RC ship this size, actually I have never built a wooden model boat period so wish me luck. I am starting a new album on here of my progress with pictures of the original ship. This is not going to be 100% scale as there isnt enough information (plus being a novice) out there for me to build a museum quality model but it will be close as possible to the naked eye. Here are some pics of the ship and my progress so far. The silhouette of the keel is now upright so let the fun begin :-) P.S. If this thread disappears its because I got frustrated and needed fuel for my fireplace.
