This week I proudly started a new job at UF Health at Jacksonville. I will be working on a neuro unit, and more than that, I have an uncle who suffered from a stroke that was not treated properly, and by the time he was Life Lighted to Mayo here in Jax, it was too late to use the medications that could have broken up the clot. Thankfully, his life was saved, but he now cannot live independently and is paralyzed on one side and has aphasia. Please learn the signs of a stroke, and you can help save someone. Remember that while there have been studies that show the tongue being deviated to the side could be a new sign, these studies are still in their infancy. Most of all remember that the person does *not* have to exhibit all the signs. Each person is unique, and could display in different ways. Time is a very important factor in stroke patients, so remember to act fast.
