This is of critical importance because of the disastrous, irreversible impact they would have on the ecosystem of the Great Lakes. When I was in the U.S. Senate, I introduced both the National Aquatic Invasive Species Act and the Asian Carp Prevention and Control Act. As Attorney General, I joined with the attorneys general of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota in seeking a court order that requires the federal government to create a permanent ecological separation between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River basin.
