This week, there has been a shooting of a deaf-mute man in/near - TopicsExpress

This week, there has been a shooting of a deaf-mute man in/near downtown Meridian. He was shot in the back in the middle of the night, apparently while he crossed the street. There was no provocation, no past disputes with the shooter. They did not know each other. The crime had no real motive. The victim was essentially homeless, going around downtown, picking up what jobs he could with his very limited speech (he apparently could read lips, tho). He never bothered anyone, was friendly to everybody and tho he could not hear, his friends said he would go see a band play, put his hand on a speaker and dance to the beat. In short, he was harmless, killed for no reason at all, other than (possibly) his last name, which was the same as a teenager who shot someone a few months ago (the name is fairly common and its not even clear if the 2 people are even related). This week, a 14 year old high school student won money in a raffle and donated the money to a friend who had been injured in a car wreck. He had no reason not to keep the money or to give it other than to shrug and say She needed it more than i did. The girl (who has come a long way and continues to recover) and her family were so touched by the gesture that the mother broke down and cried while talking about it. It wasnt a huge dollar amount, but the kid gave every penny he had for his friend. He didnt mind the story being told, but he didnt want a picture by himself (when so many helped with the raffle, he said) and he didnt really want his name in the paper (i did have to print it, but i wont give it here), saying that it wasnt a big deal. But his generosity inspired other people to give, too. One little action called others who could give more into action. In hearing the widows mite fall, others who could help more, did their part. The boys principal told me she doesnt ask much of media outlets, but theres so much bad that happens with young people (the aforementioned shooter was under 21), she just wanted something positive ran. Dont be fooled and dont be naive - evil does exist! It can come on you when you least expect it and hit you harder than you ever could anticipate. There are people who think of nothing more than what they are feeling at any given moment. These people are dangerous and they can hurt you. And you just never know how one of them might change your life. But dont be fooled and dont lose heart - there is good, there is purity. There are people who get something and think immediately how can this benefit someone who needs it more? And you never know when you might stumble across one of them. It may be just when you really, really need it. And you just never know how one of them might change your life.
