This weekend I began watching a documentary about Frida Kahlo. It was different than other documentaries Id seen, and closely paralleled her work to her life. At a certain point, I had to shut it off. It was too painful to feel her relentless undoing, crumbling inside because she attached her love to a fat egotistical frog who no doubt fed off her pain. She was exquisitely beautiful and talented. There was no need for her self-destruction. The thing is, their spirits were tied. His refusal to truly honor their love is what killed her; a slow painful death. It is said that at her cremation (they cremated her in her famous four-poster bed), her body burned bright blue. And when the last bright blue ember died, and there was no more, when her spirit left the premises, Diego slumped over, all the life and spirit out of him. He died 3 years later.
