This weekend, Queen Mary 2 passed Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing on her way to New York from Southampton. Guests lined the decks of #QM2 as Captain Kevin Oprey saluted the Azzam crew who were halfway through a Transatlantic crossing from Portugal to the USA, preparing for the Volvo Ocean Race. Captain Oprey said: Meeting the Abu Dhabi Ocean racing yacht Azzam, a contender for the 2014/15 Volvo Ocean Race was a great experience for all of us onboard Queen Mary 2. I am sure as we approached Azzam, they were in awe of the sheer size of our ship and as we sailed by, the sheer beauty and power of two ocean thoroughbreds one under power and the other under sail made a spectacular sight. Being a keen sailor myself, I could appreciated the beauty and power of Azzam and felt the need to salute skipper Ian Walker and his crew as both vessels made their way across the Atlantic.
