This weekend marks the 200th anniversary of the writing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Not only our national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner was the flag that flew during the War of 1812 during the Battle of Baltimore at Fort McHenry, inspiring Francis Scott Key to write the words that would become the famous song that became our National Anthem. The Flag of the United States of America has flown all over the world as a symbol of freedom and liberty. It is worn on the shoulders of U.S. Armed Forces members and serves as a symbol of hope to the oppressed and a symbol of fear to our enemies. It represents who we are as a people and the values we stand for as Americans. The flag, coupled with our National Anthem stir in our hearts the pride we have in our nation and reaffirm our knowledge that the United States of America is the greatest nation on the face of the Earth. May God continue to bless our great nation and may he protect all of those who serve under the Star Spangled Banner around the globe.
