This weeks Tuesday Tip deals with a regular fall issue: shedding. Each fall our pets prepare their coat for the chilly winter weather by shedding their summer coat and growing in a denser fur layer. Great them, a bit of a hassle for us! So what can you do to decrease the number of hairfluffs floating through your home? You might have guessed it - youve simply got to make the time to brush your pet more frequently. I wish I had an option for you that does not involve elbow grease, but until we invent an in-home grooming robot (any scientists out there interested?), youre up to bat. Making grooming a part of your daily routine will remove remove loose hairs before they hit the floor, prevent matting of your pets coat, and improves air circulation to their skin. You should also make sure you are using the right brush for you pet: Pets with short and smooth coats should use a soft to medium bristle brush with short, closely spaced bristles. Pets with short wiry coats would do best with a firm bristle brush with short, closely spaced bristles, along with a slicker brush. Those with medium to long flowing coats need a soft to medium bristle brush with long, medium- to wide-spaced bristles for regular grooming and a slicker brush for mats and tangles.
