This week’s meditation from Bishop Houck, Catholic Extension - TopicsExpress

This week’s meditation from Bishop Houck, Catholic Extension President Emeritus: Those who are able to be part of daily Mass or pray the daily scripture readings are again treated in the Acts of the Apostles to the account of the growth of the church after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. Guided by the Holy Spirit and with deep faith in the resurrection of the crucified Savior, Jesus Christ, the church began to grow. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ instruction and the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and the prayers... Those who believed shared all things in common... They went to the temple area together every day, while in their home they broke bread... praising God and winning the approval of all the people. Day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:42-47) Such notable changes came over the Apostles and those who believed in the Resurrection. Today we are a much larger community of believers but Pope Francis urges us to catch and live these same “changes.” The Holy Eucharist is our “breaking of the bread.” We have the gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives through Baptism and Confirmation. May our regular participation in the Holy Eucharist strengthen and help us add to the number of those being saved! Bishop William R. Houck
