This week’s spiritual practice: Silence and Awareness of Creation While practicing silence today, this poem came to me ask I walked: In silence, I walked away from the sunset. Its salmons and eggshell pinks above glowed orange-like behind me racing to catch glimpses between buildings, catching clouds framed in arched panes kept me abreast of what I could no longer easily see. Glancing down the lane westward, an eternal moment, a sunset symphony, lingering light glided, slipping off the cirrus, funneling, sliding off the side of the sky. Above, the crescent moon perched on the smoke of purpling clouds. The eyeless whitened smile followed my paces. The city’s star-starved dusk squeaked like dog toys stopping me, head craning, eyes scanning, following the silly sound. A wobbly V of birds’ silhouettes flapped northward. More squeaks and a second wavering V raced to catch them. These slices of creation whispered, delighted. God-gifts, moments of music, worship and wonder the Spirit called with depth imperceptible from the silence, as I walked away from the sunset. Karen Perez 1/23/15
