This will be a letter coming to parents of Plainfield Little - TopicsExpress

This will be a letter coming to parents of Plainfield Little League players this coming week. Fall Ball signups will be on Sunday July 27th from 11:00 to 1:00 pm, mail in form available or online registration will also be available. Dear Parents, Well another season has gone by…. How time flies! As I said in my opening day speech my plans are to not come back for a 17th season. It has been an awesome time in my life being able to be involved in the Plainfield community. I have met so many great families that have turned into really great friendships. There comes a time when change is needed either for the individual, group or team. I believe now is the time. New leaders, faces and ideas are never a bad thing.. CHANGE IS GOOD! The Plainfield Little League is going to be looking for new board members for the upcoming 2015 season. Many of us have been around a very longtime with no children involved. We are looking to “retire” so we can now spend more time with our families and friends. I know for me personally I would like to be able to do more things at the drop of a hat like go see my mom who will be 80 this year on a weekend, go take Tonya on a weekend away or a trip during her April school vacation, go golfing on a Saturday before the end of July etc… these are all sacrifices that we all have done, with no regrets at all. I am not going to sugar coat it. There is a lot of sacrifice that you go through to run an organization this big. You need to be committed from the end of March, when you do a lot of preparation, until the end of July when hopefully your all-star teams are performing in the state tournaments as we have 2 of them doing this year. Oh then Fall Ball starts around mid-August until the end of October. You don’t need to love baseball… I don’t! I am a NHL and NFL fan first and foremost. You need to have the drive and willingness to do something good in your community to help the children have a safe friendly environment to be in. The goal was never wins and losses during the regular season which I know has irked many people over the years. All stars is a different animal… you play to win but win or lose you always do your best! The goal is to give back to the community of Plainfield, keep the children involved and active, keep the children safe, be caring to them because unfortunately some families/kids are in tough situations and they will remember this the rest of their life. My dad ran a youth bowling league for 25 years. I still remember all 3 of my little league coaches to this day Mr. Stevens, Mr. Duarte and Mr. Green were my coaches in the Taunton, MA Little League and Mr. Rose was my coach in my Babe Ruth years. They were all great role models, they all left a great impression on me and why I decided to be involved in volunteering. The current board is open to doing a good turnover with the next board. I have spoken with some of the current board members and we are open to being able to consult the new board on any questions or concerns. We are definitely not going to just drop and run. I actually have an unofficial list of things to do by month to help as a guide. The election of new officers will be held on Wednesday Sept 10th at 7:00 pm at the Plainfield Town Hall. If you are interested in joining or just want more information please email the board at plainfieldlittleleague@yahoo Sincerely, Scott Charlwood
